Twinkle

This one can be a bit tricky... mostly because of estimating length and forming letters attached, but if i can do it..so can you! :)

I wanted to buy this light but for a small light costing $30,- i decided to try and make one myself and bigger!  What you need is the following (based on this design) ; 1 Ikea VISSVASS costing $3,-  or a long twinkle light you have left over (make sure the color of the cord does not clash with the design!). A really long roll (for this i used a bit less then 5 meters in order to be able to reach with 1 of the ikea light string) of firm metal cord (sturdy is best!).

Also decide where you are going to put the light (if its not near a closed, the bed or a shelf then keep in mind to built a tiny shelf for the on/off button) it runs on batteries so no outlets needed :).

Ok, lighten up! Lets start!

1. Puzzle time
Whatever shape or word you want to make. Start by drawing! Make the shape on a paper. Then trace it with a different color to see how much you can trace without going backwards (surprisingly enough it can really depend a lot on where you start! Try to adjust the shape to a minimum or loose ends and backwards passages. Are you sure it is the minimum? ok, then remember the where to start and grab the iron cord.

2. Stay in shape
Cut the iron cord at about 5 meters (a bit less) and start shaping the end and beginning to see if you will have enough for the middle or if the shape needs to become smaller or bigger. Use tools if needed to help you shape the cord and even table legs to make corners. Reshape until you can finish the shape. test already (without attaching) if the lights can make it from start to end. and when they do. start attaching them! You can use coloured tape or (like me) metal colored thin iron cord (at least 10 m!). But don't swirl the lights around to much because it will make the cord loose length!

3. Let it shine
hold it in the air and see if it is sturdy enough and where you are going to place the screws or nails to hang it. Tighten where needed and attach any extra wanted bells and whistles. Hang it on the wall...place the switch...put in batteries...turn it on...and let it shine! :)

I hope you enjoyed even the puzzle elements of this project and that the end result was worth it! And like like always: "I've showed you mine, now show me yours!" please? :)
