From Showercurtain To Raincoat!:)

It worked! I had this idea, that the fabric of a showercurtain might be perfect for a poncho or a raincoat. So, i got a new one, and tried it out! Now, i have to admit it was a lot harder then i thought (mostly because I've never worked with this kind of fabric and I've actually never made a coat or a hoodie before;). But..It works! I'm going to tell you how i did it and I would love to see what YOU make of it!

1. Close the cutains
Lay the showercurtain on the floor and fold the top and bottom to the middle. (a little bit more of the top/bottom if it's not trimmed correctly yet, mine had a good bottom and even buttonholes on top so i could totally use it as it was). Then start pinning or (to make it even easier) start taping paper tape on the places where you think you should cut/sew. Make sure to leave a stroke on top or bottom to make the waist belt later.

2.  Fill in the gaps
You can either pin and try on first, or if you feel confidant sew the side and sleeve lines and then try it on. You will notice the sleeves might be to short. We will use the leftover fabric (from sides of hoodie and between arms and body) to make them into the wanted length:) When the fit is good, cut of the sides and trim all the edges. Now, if the sleeves are made wide like mine (so it fits over warm clothes) you can add tunnels and cord on the bottom of the sleeves. Now sew on the perfect buttons (if your curtain had rings instead of buttonholes, you can use paddington buttons. If you don't like it then make another lining and then either make buttonholes or use hooks or push buttons as a closing) and the belt is mostly gonna tie it all together and keep in tight around the waist:)

3. Hoodie and the belt
Now that the body is done, we can start to make a tunnel for the hoodie and put a cord inside (make sure not to sew them together, and also check if you can use original lining as a tunnel or not). There is a lot of improvisation in this tutorial! If the hoodie is too small or too wide or not wide enough then adjust it by adding leftover fabric in the middle of the back of the hoodie or tighten it. Almost done! Now we trim the outlines of the waist belt and maybe me cord or another matching material on top.
Done! Can you believe it?! :D Next time i change the curtains i will try a new version:)

Hope it all worked out for you as well, and i mostly hoped you enjoyed the improvising way of making the coat and the overall idea....that you can actually make a coat from a showercutrain!!!!:)
